Cioffi Appleton, LLC | Website, email list and quizzes

Effective date: October 17, 2026 | Last updated: October 17, 2026

1. Who we are

This policy covers Dr. Daryl Appleton's main website (drdarylappleton.com, including its blog and its signup and contact forms), the email signup page, and the quizzes (the Better Than Balance quiz and the "What's your F word?" podcast quiz at quiz.drdarylappleton.com). All are run by Cioffi Appleton, LLC, a Rhode Island limited liability company ("we," "us"). Cioffi Appleton, LLC is the controller of your personal information: we decide how it is used.

Contact: team@drdarylappleton.com | Cioffi Appleton, LLC, Rhode Island

2. The short version

  • We collect your email address, what you tell us in our forms, and basic information about how you engage with our emails.

  • On our quizzes, your answers are scored in your own browser and never sent to us. We keep only an anonymous record of the result.

  • We use this to send you what you asked for. We do not sell your information or share it for advertising.

  • We may publish anonymous, combined totals (for example, "62% of respondents chose X"). Never anything that identifies you.

  • You can unsubscribe anytime and ask us to access or delete your information.

3. What we collect

Email signup (on our website and signup page):

  • Email address: You

  • First name, if you give it: You (optional)

  • Your consent choices (for example, occasional notes, event invitations), with date and time: You, recorded by our email provider

  • Where you signed up (for example, the page or event): Recorded by our email provider

  • Email engagement: whether you open our emails and which links you click, with approximate time, device, and location derived from your IP address: Collected automatically by our email provider (see Section 5)

  • Basic technical data when you visit our pages (IP address, browser type, pages visited): Collected automatically by our website host and service providers

Our main website (drdarylappleton.com):

  • Name, organization, email, the kind of work you're interested in, and your message, if you use the contact form: You

  • Email and first name, if you use the signup pop-up or signup form: You

  • Cookies and technical data (IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, approximate location, and site errors): Collected automatically by Wix, Cloudflare, and Sentry (see Section 5)

The quiz:

  • Your quiz result, the event or link you came from, and the date: Recorded anonymously on our quiz site, with no name, email, answers or IP address attached

  • Email address and first name, if you give them after the quiz: You, sent directly to our email provider

  • Your consent choice after the quiz: You, recorded by our email provider

  • IP address and basic technical data, briefly, to block spam and abuse and to run the site: Collected automatically by our spam-protection provider (on the email and inquiry forms only), our website host, and our quiz database provider's standard request logs. These logs are not linked to your quiz result and are deleted on the short schedule in Section 8

Your individual answers never leave your device. Each quiz is scored in your browser, and we do not receive or store your answers. If you leave your email and tick the consent box, our quiz server passes to our email provider, without storing or logging it, only your email address, first name, quiz result, consent choice, and the event you came from, so we can send you your result and related notes. If you skip that step, nothing is sent to our email provider, and the only record is the anonymous one above.

Team and speaking inquiries. If you use the "Bring this to your team" form, we collect your name, email, organization, the kind of work you're interested in, and your message. We use it only to reply to your inquiry. It is stored securely with our database provider (Supabase), where only we can access it, and we receive a notification that a new inquiry has arrived. That notification does not include your name, email, or message. Your inquiry is not added to our email list unless you tick the separate, optional box to receive Dr. Daryl's notes. If you do, only your name and email go to our email provider, and you'll get the usual confirmation email first. We delete inquiries automatically 24 months after they arrive.

Website contact form. If you use the contact form on drdarylappleton.com, we collect the details listed above and use them only to reply to you. They are stored in our Wix account and are not copied to any other service. Your inquiry is not added to our email list. We delete website inquiries 24 months after they arrive, or sooner if you ask.

Website signups. If you sign up on drdarylappleton.com, your email and first name are stored in our Wix account, and Wix sends you a confirmation email. We will ask you to confirm before moving you to our main email list.

Past purchases. Our website no longer sells products. If you bought something from us in the past, we keep the record of that purchase (such as your name, email, address, what you bought, and the amount) for tax and accounting. Payments were processed through Wix Payments, including PayPal; we never received full card numbers.

What we don't collect: We don't collect payment card numbers, government ID numbers, or health information. Please don't include health information in any open-text answer or email to us.

4. How we use it

  • To send the emails you asked for: your quiz deeper dive, occasional notes from Dr. Daryl, and, if you chose it, event invitations.

  • To deliver your quiz result and related follow-up.

  • To run our website and fix errors.

  • To keep records of past purchases for tax and accounting.

  • To understand, in general, which emails and topics are useful, so we can write better ones.

  • To keep a record of your consent and your unsubscribe choice.

  • To keep our pages and list secure and free of spam or abuse.

  • To produce anonymous, combined totals (see Section 7).

  • To meet legal obligations and protect our rights.

We do not use your information to make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

5. Email tracking, cookies, and embedded content

  • Tracking pixels. Our emails contain a small, invisible image (a "pixel") and tracked links. When you open an email or click a link, our email provider records that it happened, when, and basic device and location data. You can limit this by turning off automatic image loading in your email app. Our email provider does not currently offer a way for us to switch this off.

  • Cookies and device storage. Our quiz site does not set cookies and does not use advertising or tracking tools. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and does not store IP addresses or identify you, to count page visits (with country, referring site and device type) and how many people reach each quiz result. These counts are combined totals and never include your answers or email address. Our own pages store nothing on your device. On the email and inquiry forms, our spam protection (Cloudflare Turnstile) checks your IP address and browser details to confirm you are a person. It sets no cookies in our setup, but it saves one small entry in your browser's storage, within its own frame, as part of that check.

  • Our main website (Wix). Our main website is hosted on Wix. Wix sets cookies that the site needs to work and stay secure (for example, session, security, and load-balancing cookies such as svSession, XSRF-TOKEN, hs, and bSession), and Cloudflare sets a bot-protection cookie (__cf_bm). Wix also collects site statistics for us (such as visits and pages viewed) and technical data for its own monitoring. Sentry, an error-monitoring service, receives technical details when a page error occurs. When you first visit, a cookie banner asks for your choice, with equal options to accept all, reject all, or choose by category: Essential (needed to run and secure the site; always on), Functional (saves your choices and shows embedded content such as Instagram images), and Analytics (counts visits and pages viewed so we can improve the site). We do not use advertising cookies. Cookies other than Essential ones are used only if you accept them, and you can change your choice at any time through the "Cookie settings" link in our website footer.

  • Embedded content. Some pages show an Instagram feed. These images load from Instagram (Meta) when the page loads, before you make any cookie choice, so your browser connects to Meta, which receives your IP address and browser details under its own privacy policy. We don't receive anything from Meta about you through the feed.

  • No advertising trackers. We do not place advertising pixels or cross-site advertising cookies on our website, signup page, or quizzes. We do not allow third parties to collect information about your online activities over time and across other websites through our pages, other than our service providers acting for us.

  • Do Not Track. Our pages do not respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals, because there is no common standard for them. Because we do not sell your information or use it for cross-site advertising, there is no such activity for those signals to turn off.

6. Who we share it with

We share your information only with service providers that process it for us, under their terms and data protection commitments:

  • Kit (formerly ConvertKit): Email list, forms, and email delivery (Location: United States)

  • Supabase Inc.: Database for anonymous quiz completion records and for team and speaking inquiries, and the server that passes your email details to Kit (from October 2026) (Location: United States (Northern Virginia))

  • Make.com: Sends us an alert when a new inquiry arrives. It receives no name, email, or message (Location: Not applicable (receives no personal information))

  • Cloudflare, Inc. (Turnstile): Blocking spam and automated submissions on the email and inquiry forms. Cloudflare also uses limited technical data to improve its own bot detection, under its own privacy policy (Location: United States company, global network (mainly United States and European Economic Area))

  • Cloudflare, Inc. (Pages and Web Analytics): Hosting our quiz site and counting visits without cookies (Location: United States company, global network)

  • Wix.com Ltd.: Hosting our main website and signup page, its forms, cookies, site statistics, and records of past purchases (Location: Israel company; global hosting)

  • Functional Software, Inc. (Sentry): Error monitoring on our main website, used by Wix as part of its platform (Location: United States)

  • Wix Payments (including PayPal): Processed payments for past purchases; not used for new sales (Location: Wix: Israel company; PayPal: United States)

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect rights and safety, or to a successor if our business is reorganized or sold. A successor would be bound by this policy.

We do not sell your personal information. We have not sold it, and we do not share it with third parties for targeted or cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not give it to data brokers, event hosts, sponsors, or the media. If this ever changes, we will update this policy first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

7. Anonymous, combined totals

We may share or publish statistics about our subscribers or quiz results, for example with a journalist for a story. We do this only with information that has been de-identified and combined, and we follow these rules:

  • Totals only. Counts and percentages, never individual answers or records.

  • Minimum group of 10. We won't report any figure based on fewer than 10 people. Smaller groups are combined or left out.

  • No free-text answers. We don't share written answers, even with names removed.

  • No combining details to single out a person. We won't break results down (for example, by event, town, or role) in a way that could point to someone.

  • No re-identification. We commit not to try to re-identify anyone from de-identified data, and we ask anyone who receives these totals from us not to either.

  • No raw data. No one outside Cioffi Appleton, LLC and its service providers receives our subscriber or quiz data files.

8. How long we keep it

  • While you're subscribed: we keep your information for as long as you stay on the list.

  • After you unsubscribe: within 90 days we remove your name and quiz result. Your email provider record may keep basic engagement history attached to the suppression record below. We keep your email address, the date you unsubscribed, and your consent history on a suppression list. That record is how we make sure you don't get email from us again, and how we show that we honored your choice.

  • If you ask us to delete your information: we delete it within 30 days, except your email address and opt-out date, which we keep on a suppression list so you aren't emailed again. If you want that removed too, tell us. Just know that we then won't have a record to block your address if it ever reaches us again.

  • If you don't confirm your email: we don't email you beyond the one confirmation request. Unconfirmed details older than 30 days are deleted in a monthly cleanup, so usually within 60 days.

  • Team and speaking inquiries, and website contact form messages: deleted 24 months after they arrive, or sooner if you ask.

  • Records of past purchases: kept for 7 years for tax and accounting, then deleted.

  • Website signups in Wix: kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, then handled as in "After you unsubscribe" above.

  • Quiz answers: never collected. Anonymous completion records (result, event, date) contain no personal information and may be kept.

  • Technical logs with IP addresses: kept by our providers for security and to keep the service running, generally for up to 90 days, and not linked to your quiz result. Cloudflare keeps its own security logs under its own policy.

  • Aggregate totals (Section 7) contain no personal information and may be kept.

9. Your choices and rights

  • Unsubscribe: use the link at the bottom of any email. It takes effect right away in our email system, and always within 10 business days.

  • Change your preferences: email us at team@drdarylappleton.com.

  • Access, correct, delete, or get a copy: email team@drdarylappleton.com with the email address you signed up with. We may ask you to confirm the request from that address. We respond within 30 days.

  • Cookies: change your choice anytime through the cookie settings link in our website footer.

  • Withdraw consent: you can withdraw any consent at any time. This doesn't affect anything done before you withdrew.

  • No charge, no penalty for using any of these rights.

  • If we can't meet your request, we'll explain why. You can reply "Appeal" and we will review our decision. You may also contact your state attorney general or, outside the US, your data protection authority.

Rhode Island residents: Cioffi Appleton, LLC is the designated controller for this website. The categories of personal data we collect are listed in Section 3. We do not sell personal data to any third party, and we do not process personal data for targeted advertising. You can reach us at team@drdarylappleton.com.

California residents: this policy lists the categories of personal information we collect (Section 3), the categories of third parties we share it with (Section 6), how you can review and request changes (Section 9), how we respond to Do Not Track signals (Section 5), and how we tell you about changes (Section 14).

10. If you're in the EU, UK, or Canada

  • Lawful basis (EU/UK): we rely on your consent to send you emails, to send you your quiz result, and to use cookies other than Essential ones. We rely on our legitimate interests to reply to inquiries you send us, run our website, use strictly necessary cookies, keep records of past purchases, to keep consent and unsubscribe records, secure our systems, and produce anonymous totals, and on legal obligation where the law requires us to keep records.

  • Your rights (EU/UK): access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, and withdrawal of consent at any time. You can complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).

  • International transfers: we and our providers store data mainly in the United States. Cloudflare may process technical data on its global network. Our providers rely on recognized safeguards for transfers from the EU, UK, and Switzerland, such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (and its UK extension) and Standard Contractual Clauses.

  • Canada: we send commercial email only with your express consent. Every email identifies Cioffi Appleton, LLC, includes our mailing address and a contact method, and has an unsubscribe link we honor within 10 business days.

11. Security

We use reputable providers with industry-standard security, limit access to Dr. Daryl and those who help her run the business, protect our accounts with strong passwords and two-factor authentication, and keep data exports to a minimum. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affecting your information occurs, we'll notify you as the law requires.

12. Our content and quizzes are educational, not therapy

The Better Than Balance quiz is an educational tool for self-reflection about work and goals. The "What's your F word?" quiz suggests a podcast episode and is for reflection and entertainment. It is not therapy, counseling, a psychological assessment, or a diagnosis, and taking it does not create a counselor-client or any other clinical relationship. Dr. Daryl Appleton, Ed.D., LMHC, is a behavioral strategist who advises executives and leadership teams. She is a licensed mental health counselor in Rhode Island. Dr. Daryl's advisory, podcast, and media work are educational and are not therapy. Our quizzes are not part of any counseling service. If you're concerned about your mental health, please contact a qualified professional. In the US, you can call or text 988 at any time.

13. Children

Our website, signup page, and quizzes are for adults. They are not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we will delete it. If you believe a minor has signed up, email team@drdarylappleton.com.

14. Changes to this policy

We'll post any update on this page with a new "Last updated" date. If we make a material change, such as collecting new kinds of information or using it in a new way, we'll tell subscribers by email before the change takes effect and, where the law requires, ask for your consent again.
